Warren Buffett, known as the “Oracle of Omaha,” is considered one of the most successful investors of all time.  He first bought a stock at age 11. He runs Berkshire Hathaway, a holding company headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, United States. 

Between the years 1965 and 2020, Berkshire Hathaway portfolio posted a 20% compound annual gain. Berkhsire Hathaway double that of the S&P 500 index. The S&P 500 is a stock index that represents the stocks of the 500 largest listed US companies. The index is weighted according to market capitalization (the total value of the shares in circulation).

*It should be noted that Warren Buffett also owns shares in a large number of other companies that are not listed on the stock market. Those companies are not listed in the table above. 

The largest position of Warren Buffet’s investment portfolio is Apple (44.5%). It is by far Warren Buffett’s biggest investment position. He first bought Apple in the first quarter of 2016. Bank of America is Warren Buffett’s second largest position (14.5%), followed by American Express (7.5%), Coca-Cola (6.9%) and Kraft Heinz (3.5%). Warren Buffett’s largest holdings mentioned above account for more than 75% of his current investment portfolio.

Changes in the Investment Portfolio of Warren Buffet in the third quarter of 2021:

In the third quarter of 2021, Warren Buffett invested in Royalty Pharma and Floor & Decor. At the same time, he reduced his positions in the following companies:  Charter Communications Inc, AbbVie Inc, Bristol-Myers Squibb Co, Marsh & McLennan Companies Inc, U.S. Bancorp, MasterCard and Visa. He sold out Merck & Co Inc, Liberty Global PLC and Organon & Co. 

The Investment Strategy of Warren Buffet:

Warren Buffet is well known as a buy-and-hold investor. He often holds stocks, which he buys, for years or even decades. Warren Buffet’s stocks often tend to be dividend growing stocks. One example is his fourth biggest position Coca-Cola, which he bought in 1987. Coca-Cola has grown dividends in about 60 years in a row.

    Interesting that Warren Buffett does not hold any stock in Berkshire Hathaway.
